Each of the 19 traditional schools in Lexington-Richland Five earned recognition as Palmetto Gold or Silver Award recipients from the South Carolina Department of Education. This is the first time in the 11-year history of the award that all schools in the district were recognized (alternative schools are not eligible.)
The Palmetto Gold and Palmetto Silver awards program was created by the South Carolina General Assembly to recognize schools that attained high levels of absolute performance, high rates of growth and substantial progress in closing achievement gaps between groups of students.
The state’s Education Oversight Committee establishes criteria for the awards, and the Department of Education applies those criteria to determine which schools are honored.

Title Problems Mount With Housing Boom

You have more than a one in three chance that buying title insurance will pay off.
Technically, title insurance policies always pays off, because they come with a service that guarantees the title to the home you buy is truly free and clear.
But industry trade group, American Land Title Association says title problems are found in 36 percent of all residential real estate transactions, including new and resale home purchases and refinances -- up from 25 percent in 2000.

Ballentine is located between Irmo and Chapin. It is off US Rt 76 also knows as Dutch Fork Road or the Peak Exit off I-26. It is a small community. Along Hwy 76 you will find some commercial growth and housing developments in the $140´s and higher. Some homes on the lake, lakeside communities and marinas. It is popular because of it´s close location to the lake, Irmo and Columbia.
Known for it´s good Schools Lex/Rich #5 schools http://www.LexRich5.org Ballentine Elementary School is still fairly new. You will find a ball park nearby. When you come from Irmo in Dutch Fork Road you will find yourself in Ballentine once you see a gas station and Walgreens at Hwy 6. There is a small shopping area with a restaurant and before you know if you have gone through Ballentine. It is small. Most of the homes will be towards the lake.
